Once upon a time when I was a little fat girl, me and my cousins got
involved in a tug fight. My cousins were pulling and forcing me to stand
on the weighing machine at the railway station And I with all my
strength was trying to run away. In the end I gave up and took the
challenge to stand on the machine, braced myself for the coming attack. I
was fattest of them all and everyone wanted to laugh at my weight. When
the weight slip came out of the machine there was a pin drop silence
from my cousins, curiously I took a look and burst out laughing. The
machine just showed 20 kilos ( which I definitely was not). I kept
laughing and dancing in front of them for a very long time. For all
these years this incident stayed with me because it taught me the power
of the last laugh.
When I got pregnant, most people told me that with a tendency to gain weight, 20 - 25 kilos of weight gain is normal. I should not expect this weight to go easily, in fact it will be very tough for me to lose weight after delivery because hunger levels do increase while breastfeeding. Every time when someone commented on the impending weight gain and how I won't be in a position to lose it, the railway weight machine incident flashed in front of my eyes.
During my pregnancy I gained 14 kilos and 4 months after the delivery I managed to lose all the weight plus an additional kilo as well (in total 15 kilos). When I stood on the scale one 31st December I just could not stop myself remembering my day at the railway station, just could not stop myself from laughing out loud.
Somewhere in my life I discovered that its not others who decide my fate, its just me alone who calls the shots and decide my destiny.
The one who laughs last, laughs loudest and longest because she knows that no one can take hard work away from her and hard work is the only thing in life that always always pay.
Just after the delivery
Wearing my old jeans felt like a distant dream
Finally the Jeans are back on.
Remember, when underestimate your strength then you and me we both know, who will be laughing in the end.
A very happy new year to all of you. This new year don't forget to chase your dreams.
PS: And yes I am back to blogging.

ReplyDeleteHi Shiva,
ReplyDeleteI need your valuable advice.
About me : I am 34 years old staying in sharjah. I have a 4 and half year daughter.
I got miscarriage on 4th of Jan. I was 22 weeks pregnant. Its a Premature Memebarance Rutpure. It was my IVF preganacy. My first baby is also IVF baby. I got IVF sucessful at first attempt in both the cases.
I am very upset because of the miscarriage. Now trying to come out of this. But still want to go for IVF. Doctors asked me to try it as soon as possible because of my age. They asked me take 3 months gap.
I am now 84 kg. I put on around 10 kgs in the 2nd pregancy. I will be trying for the IVF in this july 2013.I would have to loose 15-20 kgs.
Is it possible to loose this much atleast 15kgs.
I started with 2 mile lesie sasone walk from last 2 days.
My diet
8.00 am : Tea with brown bread sandwitch/rava uttapam or idli
11.00 am : fruit
12.45 am : 1 chapati and sabji and salad
4.30 pm : tea and 2 marie biscuits
6.30 pm : fruits
9.00 pm : daliya with lots of vegtables/ 1 chapati and veg and salad/soup and fruits.
pls guide me. How much time needed to loose first 10kgs. What should be my short term goals.Like in week what goal should be set?
regards,
Rupali
Dear Rupali/Kshipra,
DeleteAfter my delivery it took me 4 months to lose 14 kilos but I think some of my weight was water weight, the rest I lost through sensible eating. As mine was a C-section I did not do any exercise for 2 months but breastfeeding alone consume lot of calories and it leads to natural weight loss.
You are soon going to try for a second baby, so its best to opt for walking as it is safe. You should aim to walk for at least 45 minutes along with walking you can also do LS walk at home.
In 3 months you can safely aim to lose 6 - 8 kilos, usually 2-3 kilos a month is considered healthy weight loss.
As you have short time, you should be very focused.
1. Completely avoid junk food and cold drinks.
2. Make your meals in less oil and eat healthy meals.
3. Aim for 5 days a week exercise. If you push yourself to exercise more the weight will become stubborn. Make sure to walk at a brisk pace. Don't make a mistake of eating less and exercising more.
4. Aim to lose 1 kilo in 10 days. Try to be as committed to the program as possible. Remember that whatever changes that you are making are not temporary. If you are doing something then do it right the first time for life long results.
Hope this helps.
Lots of baby dust to you.
Love
Shiva
Hey Shiva,
ReplyDeletewell i gone through ur whole blog its amazing and well very inspiring too for a girl like me. well shiva my major point of concern is i am 25kg overweight and i am 21 i have lost about 5 kg this month and need to make it more rapid fast.i want to lose abut 8-10 kg in a month it s not a hard to me i am fully dedicated to my weightoss well plz help me in this case fr losing around 8-10 kg per month need diet plan and daily routine..
luv yaa....
waiting fr the reply shiva
Dear Sayeda,
DeleteYou took the right step at the right age. I wish I was this sensible at your age. The best thing is that age is at your side :).
Its possible to lose lot of weight within a month but I do not support such theories. If one lose lot of weight (8-10 kilos) within a short span of time (i.e within a month) there will be lot of loose skin and stretch marks. No weight loss is worth harming your body in such way.
So why the rush. It took you 21 years to be 25 kilos over weight, why not dedicate 1-2 years to reach your target weight and maintain it for life. Slow weight loss is best weight loss.
When I lost weight back in 2009 I came down from 86 kilos to 69 kilos in roughly one year time, it took me couple of months more to push it further down. Slow weight loss is best weight loss because your body get used to the lower weight and chances of regaining are minimum.
Your diet should be something which you can follow for life. So first see where you are going wrong. For example, if you eat out 3 times a week then limit it only for weekends. Have lots of salad, dhal and raita with your meals. Have rice only once a week. Such simple changes with a proper exercise schedule will give you great results.
There is nothing complex about weight loss, it is actually very simple.
You are very young, so there is lot of energy. Enroll yourself for gym, dance classes. Go for brisk walking and a run, soon you will see your weight melting.
Don't hurry with your weight loss. Whatever changes that you are making are for the life. Do it right so that the weight does not bounce back ever again.
Hope this helps.
Lots of love

Shiva
Wish I had read your blog a year back. Congrats on getting back to pre-pregnancy weight.
